Oh wow this is a little gem! I knew it was going to be small but was a little concerned when I saw how small it was when I opened the box! No need…. the sound on this little beauty is brilliant far superior to my old bigger radio which this one was replacing. Big sound but small enough to slip into a pocket or side of a bag to take away with you. Bought a plug to charge rather than plug into a computer. Automatic scan too, found more channels than my old radio, torch which was an added bonus, love this, can’t get over the sound this little radio produces! Was going to by a bigger more expensive radio (which I didn’t want to do) but glad I didn’t as this fitted my needs perfectly. Many thanks! A+

This radio is far better than I expected – bought it primarily for digital AM facility so I could set frequency at 612 KHz to detect electrical interference at home (long story!). The radio is first class, both in terms of build quality and sound quality – in fact the sound from such a small unit is so good it will travel with us on our next holiday.

Very compact, and will happily rest in a pocket or bag – it’s smaller than my Galaxy smartphone but about twice the thickness. Haven’t experienced the battery life yet but after 2 hours playing still shows 3/4 charge on screen icon. No serious criticisms: would be helpful to have been told about the tag on the cord which slots in to the radio base as a stand, and the volume control seems counter intuitive (ie volume is reduced by moving knob left to right).

In summary, a great little radio for the price and lack of DAB not an issue as the choice of AM and FM stations available is fine.

This is a cute little unit that behaves bigger than it looks. The plastic housing is high quality and unless you look closely, has the appearance of actual metal. The sound is good for the size of speaker. The buttons however are odd – if you use a standard phone keypad where numbers 1-9 are in a square grid, you may find yourself hitting the wrong button (top row: 1,2, middle row: 3,4,5,6!). But why would you need the numbers when it auto-tunes for you? This brings me on to the biggest negative: the tuner.

The tuner is not as good as the one in my (bottom end) mobile phone. The channel search fails to pick up quite a few channels that my mobile picks up easily*. This means that you need to type in the frequency you want instead of using the up/down buttons. As long as you don’t change station, it does remember though, so you don’t have to re-type it every time you switch the radio on. One unusual feature of the FM tuner is that it covers a wider band than ordinary FM radios, going down to 70MHz rather than 87.5Mhz. Whilst there are no public broadcast radio stations in the UK at that frequency there may be elsewhere.

One unusual plus point is the ear protection. The volume in the ear phones is low compared to the speaker volume, so you don’t get a shock plugging in. There is also no pop in the headphones when you turn the radio off/on. The radio does sometimes seem to forget the headphones are plugged in though and suddenly start playing out of the speaker at the much higher volume level, which can be a bit of a shock!

The emergency torch is a welcome addition and does operate without the radio being on. It is of the hold-the-button-down variety, so good for signalling, but can’t be used hands free.

All in all the strong points are looks and portability. There is a lot in this radio for little weight and size, so good to pack if you want a radio on the go that won’t fail at the same time as your mobile phone battery, however it is let down buy its poor tuning ability.

    Tips:
    1. Although there’s only one speaker, the headphone socket allows you to listen stereo (if you’re tuned to an FM Stereo station)
    2. The built in aerial is OK but the headphones act as an additional aerial, for the very best reception use headphones – particularly when you do the initial channel search
    3. As everybody else has said if you insert the disc on the end of the wrist strap into its slot at the back of the radio it stands up nicely
    4. The charge point takes a USB mini connector (supplied) not a USB micro such as found in most mobiles so if travelling you’ll need to take both

    * I offer this by way of comparison for those wanting FM – I actually bought it for AM as I have no other receiver so unfortunately can’t comment on the AM tuning, other than to say that the number of stations it finds seem suspiciously small.
