It started well, delivered on time and nicely packaged. The instructions are fairly clear and it didn’t take long to assemble the frame which all looks good quality. However now it came to the Effector (the suspended assembly that holds the hot nozzle). Screw threads were either missing or drilled over size in two of the assembly items including the ones that connect two of the carbon fibre struts, so the assembly cant be finished nor suspended. Ok I thought I will ask for these items to be replaced and I will carry on building just in case there were any other problems to report.
There were, I ordered the linear bearing version for the better accuracy. Whilst two of the bearings glided smoothly on the rail the third was rough and snaggy and was not clamping centrally on the rail. Then I found that the fixing holes in all the bearing were not deep enough to clamp any of the belt/strut supports – how is this supposed to print accurately if the assembly parts are not rigid?
At this point I had had enough, too many defects and items that needed rectifying. I considered a replacement because I really did like this item but with all the defects it suggests its poorly made so a refund and look for something better – maybe even ready assembled.

I’m a newbie to 3D printing and given up waiting for a certain crowdfunded printer to arrive. I was recommended the MP Select Mini, but that seems to be only in USA or as import, which I didn’t fancy from a support point of view.

I bought this one as it was in UK and Amazon Marketplace backed, and next day on Prime. Who wants to wait for these things? I also liked the reviews that admitted problems and reassured the reader that the customer support from Anycubic was responsive, helpful and got the machines going if there was an issue.

The kit was complete, and the instructions really quite thorough. I used the QT codes to access the Anycubic how-to’s on YouTube, and found them useful. I later discovered that the kit had been upgraded – you need to check for updates in their Google drive archive. I also found that Arduino software and firmware had also been updated in the meantime, so go to the updates section first! That said, it wasn’t too much difficulty to retro-fit the spacers and adapt to the new firmware/Arduino.

I use a Mac – you’ll need to download the OS X version of Cura directly, as the software archive/SD card version is the development type rather than the installable binary type. Levelling was easy with a quick YouTube review (Anycubic again) and prints were coming off the kit within 7 hours, and a bit of poking around the next day. By the way – you’ll need your intuition, as the instructions don’t actually let you know how to load the filament…

I’m encouraged by this first foray into the idiosyncrasies of 3D printing, and it was certainly helpful in troubleshooting to have put the machine together and poked around under the bonnet of the firmware. Can’t recommend it enough.

And as for the customer support? Well, my build was so trouble free, I haven’t needed to contact them at all 🙂
