The jewellery clearance is one of the most anticipated sales in the city, when the store’s stock sells for as much as 80 per cent off normal retail prices. Mr Coote said the shop has held the sale for many years, and one of the reasons it is so popular, is because it’s a genuine sale. He said the business runs on fast selling items, but often some pieces end up in the shop for a little longer then he would hope for; this is ultimately the stock that goes on sale at the end of the financial year.

Mr Coote said he usually holds the sale around June, so the stock can be cleared out and new stock can be purchased when the Spring Trade Fairs begin in September.
He was expecting the store to be busy until the sale concludes 2pm Saturday.
Bronwyn Aberley, who along with business partner Kate Hemsworth, own Gorgeousness and Gorgeousness Home, launched a flash sale in Gorgeousness Home on Thursday, said their sale depend on what’s happening in the market.

Ms Aberley said the clothing business won’t go on sale until well into July however, with giftware and furniture not being seasonal, they decided to have a flash sale in the lead up to the end of the financial year. Melissa Kelly owner of Bake Table and Tea, which currently has 20 per cent off store wide said all retailers go on sale at this time of year. She said people respond really well to a store wide sale, and it was a way of saying thank you to customers, while also clearing stock to enable the store to bring in new products, as manufactures release new lines.

Brendon Fush, general sales manager with Clancy Ford said this time of year was huge for the car industry.

“Most manufactures have specials at this time of year, and many people hold off until June to buy a car because they know they will get a great deal.”
