Summer in the City part duex; discount pass is cool summertime offer

One up the Tucson heat with the Summer in the City promotion, your £5 passport to cool discounts at some of downtown’s most cherished restaurants and shops. Startup Tucson took over the program this year, offering the £5 card that users can redeem for discounts in the downtown area from merchants offering everything from 10-percent-off discounts to buy-one-get-one specials. The coupon card began June 1 and runs through Aug.

The promotion is available in stores and online with select vendors or through tucsonsummer.com[1] Monica Cota, owner of the Rustic Candle Company, 324 N. Fourth Ave., says she uses the promotion as a way to thank her loyal customers.

Forty businesses are participating so far. Liz Pocock, the COO of Startup Tucson, says the group hopes to have 100 businesses participating in two weeks. Dozens of businesses already have signed up to participate including Hotel Congress, Riley’s and Tucson Tamale.

“Were trying to get businesses signed within the next two weeks so customers can get the full benefit throughout the summer.” Pocock said. Fox Tucson Theatre, Tap and Bottle, Caf?

54 and many other locations in the downtown, Fourth Avenue, Nob Hill and Sunshine Mile area ares also taking part in the Summer in the City promotion. The discount card had been popular in the past when it was run by John Jacobs.

Startup Tucson took over in May and organizers hope to keep the lively spirits of downtown active each season.

“I really like being a part of the summer in the city.

It’s good to have people frequent this area,” Cota said. “It’s an easy, accessible, funky strip and I feel we need to cultivate it and keep it going.”
