The sale topper was a Fighting Sun colt who went to Anton Koolman Bloodstock in NSW for £110,000 – the only six-figure sale of the day as trainers and owners snapped up some value buys.

But the beauty of the VOBIS Gold sale is the bargain, as not only evidenced at Caulfield on Saturday, but even across the border in South Australia. Desert Lashes[1] remains unbeaten after eight starts after claiming the Listed Redelva Stakes[2] brilliantly to continue the streak. The three-year-old has banked £236,000 having been a £6000 sale originally as a yearling, before being on sold at the Red Centre sale in the Northern Territory for just £2100.

And the Alice Springs Turf Club had representatives in attendance looking for the next Desert Lashes, buying five yearlings for a combined £43,500.

Given it is all about the bargains, it would be remiss not to mention the cheapest pick-up of the day – an Unencumbered colt going for £1000, the lot prior to the top-selling Fighting Sun colt.
